Why I built it

Web pages change, disappear, and sometimes become difficult to revisit. Checking for an archived copy should not require a separate copy-paste-search routine every time.

Archive This! reduces that workflow to a single browser action. It does one small job and stays out of the way.

02

How it works

  1. After you click the extension, it reads the URL of the active tab.
  2. It removes common tracking parameters and the URL fragment while preserving parameters that may identify the actual page.
  3. It opens the newest available public Archive.today snapshot through the archive.is newest-snapshot route in the same tab.
If no archived snapshot exists, Archive.today determines what to show next. Archive This! does not create, host, or maintain archived copies itself.

03

Minimal by design

There is no popup interface, user account, analytics, advertising, telemetry, browsing-history permission, storage permission, or persistent access to websites.

The extension uses Chrome's activeTab permission only after you click it. Unsupported non-HTTP(S) pages are ignored.

04

Privacy

Archive This! does not collect, store, sell, share, or analyze personal information or browsing history.

To perform the lookup, the current page URL is sent to Archive.today through the archive.is service. Archive This! is not affiliated with Archive.today or archive.is, and their handling of requests is governed by their own practices.
